omgpsh! i was walking home from tuition today n i got distracted by this Chinese procession. there was lorries decorated in outgrageous neon lights n incandescent ribbons.

it was some kind of taosist ritual i think.. anyway it was super duper interesting! there were ppl rocking this "sedan" looking thing with the statues of their gods on it!

the most amazing part? there's this man with hooks on his back! at least 6 and after praying at the makeshift altar, he seemed to gain some enlightenment that he start running pulling this super heavy thing behind his back! OMG! i almost saw them piercing the hooks into his back :S

den! there were more rituals but nthing at scary at that. anyway.. they proceeded to take the hooks out cos he reached the destination alr. and! OMG! to stop the bleeding they were like spraying some kind of liquid( holy water?) and pasting yellow paper onto his wound (paper for amulet) ??? its scary but interesting! n now i know the power of religion n beliefs.

everyone was rushing to get the joss sticks and old people tried to kneel down when they could hardly bend their knees. amazing. and suddenly i see everyone taking of the shoes... after asking ard. found out that its was because this guy made an announcement that if u belive n wanna pray.. u gotta take of ur shoes. anyway the announcement was in super chiem hokkien. totally lost.

after that the guy with hooks changed into this yellow suit n started prancing ard, swinging this metal pole. expecting some action, as the people in charge was asking ppl to make way, but it turn out that the guy just spit water out of his mouth thrice and drew some sign in the air.

kinda absurd to me. but interesting all nonetheless. anyway i spent more den an hour just staring at all this.. haha! damn!
