i read of the book today. hm.. at the expense of my studies. but wadeva! this more interesting than econs and physics! ok physics can be interesting.
well, in the book it gave estimates of the death toll on nanjing to be ard 300 000 and some historians even felt that the numbers could be over 400 000. however, wad was disgusting that some historians in japan gave a figure as low as 3000. and i thought historians was there to study human past and remind us of man's mistakes. ok let say that the death toll was ard 270 000, a figure agreed by most. the massacre takes place over 6 weeks. so... 45000 killed each week, 6428 man killed evry day, 267 chinese killed per hour and 4 killed every minute! that's assuming that the japans did not eat rest or shit. and to think that they tried to hide these atrocities committed from the world. moreover! the raped females. i said female, so as long u not the wrong doing of their nations but of individuals. However, it was that it existed a three-all policy ihave the required biological parts u are considered a potential target. from young girls ard age of 8 to old women in their eighties. pregnant women are not spared. not only did they rape them, they mutilated their body parts and even forced them into prostitution. some women are even tied up to chairs or pillars as permanent fixtures for rape. after that.. they are so sick that they stick anything they can lay their hands on into the vaginas. from golf clubs to beer cans. totally SICK!
argh! yucks. AND! they even forced the chinese to commit incest! yes, they ordered sons to rape their mothers and fathers to rape their own daughters. any one who refused met a sure death.
everyone knows abt gas chambers in Auschwitz, US bombing of hiroshima, but the massacre of nanking seems downplayed. i've only heard of it last year? or the year before. i remembered just this year, when the usual uproar abt japan's prime minister annual visit to its war shrine, i was thinking wads wrg with them paying their respects to the dead? they shld be heroes to them. but after reading this book, i understood china's anger. quoted from the book, " its politically equivalent to erecting a cathedral for hilter in the middle of Berlin". and to think that they are still denying the fact that this massacre took place. in japanese textbooks, facts were distorted and many japanese are still deny the fact that this took place. they even published books with excerpts from war diaries of japanese warriors trying to prove that this whole issue is nothing but a story, a plot to destroy the reputation of japan. the funny thing is these facts and excerpts from the books were later found to be falsified and are all untruths.
there's still more to be said about this chapter in history. and the controversy will still go on. but one thing that bother me most was that many of the military personel who held important roles got of scot free due to the agreement made btw US and japan in the peace treaty stating that the imperial family would be spared from trials.Hirohito, the emperor then, reamin on his throne, further impeding the japanese awareness of their historical past. as the emperor nv beared the responsibilities for his actions. they felt that it wasn japan's strategy for war nut the acts of individuals soldiers. however it was proven that japanese military three-all policy in northern china, (loot all, kill all, burn all.) this resulted to the death of at least 19 million of chinese in the sino-jap war. moreover, many soldiers lived in military pension till old age, in protection of the govt, without paying the price of their actions. some even held important positions in the govt like minister of education.
at least the germans acknowledge their past and made it compulsory for it to be taught in classrooms. only those who remember their mistakes will not commit them agn.
ok, this is all based on only one book, but its definitely credible, coming from reputable publisher, the penguin books. after i finish this book, i gonna read abt japanese occupation in singapore. and mayb more books on the rape of nanking. buts its really a horrific read. like a horror fiction story of what man does when he loses his humanity. den i gonna start reading on china dynasty! i wanna know more abot the 2 female chinese emperors. and mao zhe dong! and stalin! i wanna know the differencr btw nationalism communism and facism. they all seems to be the same think to me. whahahz! yeahs! NLB gonna be my fav hangout during the long hols! wahahhaz! gosh i sounds like a nerd! but history really interesting!!!!
